Prohibitory signs
C1 No entry for vehicular traffic
This sign prohibits entry for all types of vehicles. The sign is sometimes curved, making it easy to recognize from behind or the side. Traffic in the opposite direction may still be allowed.
C2 No vehicular traffic
This sign prohibits traffic with all types of vehicles in both directions. Cycling or riding mopeds is also not allowed, but bicycles or mopeds may be led. Exceptions can be indicated with additional panels.
C3 No motor vehicles except class II mopeds
This sign prohibits motor vehicle traffic, except for Class II mopeds. If this class of mopeds is also included in the prohibition, it will be indicated on an additional panel.
C4 No motor vehicles with more than two wheels
Prohibits motor vehicles with more than two wheels, such as cars. Motorcycles and mopeds without sidecars are however allowed.
C5 No motorcycles or class I mopeds
This sign indicates that traffic with motorcycles and Class I mopeds is prohibited. The sign is typically placed in areas where noise reduction is needed. Other vehicle types, such as buses and Class II mopeds, are permitted.
C6 No motor vehicles with trailers
This sign prohibits traffic with motorized vehicles towing trailers other than semi-trailers or carts unless these are also prohibited by an additional panel. The prohibition can also apply only to the vehicle combination’s total weight, in which case it is specified on an additional panel.
C7 Heavy trucks not allowed
The sign prohibits trucks with a total weight exceeding 3.5 tons. It is often placed on small roads unsuitable for heavy traffic. If the prohibition also applies to light trucks, it is indicated on an additional panel.
C8 No tractors or class II motor equipment
Traffic with tractors and class II motor equipment is prohibited. The sign is commonly placed on roads where slow-moving vehicles may disrupt traffic. If the prohibition also applies to Class I motor equipment, it is indicated on an additional panel.
C9 No vehicles carrying dangerous goods
This sign prohibits vehicles carrying dangerous goods that must be marked according to special regulations. The sign is often found in city centers or tunnels to minimize the risk of catastrophic accidents.
C10 Bicycles and class II mopeds not allowed
The sign prohibits traffic with bicycles and Class II mopeds. An additional panel is used if the prohibition also includes Class I mopeds.
C11 No class II mopeds
Prohibits traffic with Class II mopeds, but it is allowed to lead the moped. The prohibition can also include Class I mopeds, but it will be indicated on an additional panel.
C12 No horse-drawn vehicles
This sign prohibits traffic with vehicles drawn by animals, such as horse-drawn carts. The sign was more common in the past but is still occasionally seen in rural areas.
C13 Off-road motor vehicles and off-road trailers not allowed
This sign prohibits traffic with off-road vehicles, such as snowmobiles. Exceptions for off-road trailers may exist but are indicated on an additional panel in that case.
C14 No horse riding
The sign prohibits horse riding and is most often found at the start of pedestrian and cycle paths. An additional panel is used to indicate if the prohibition also includes leading horses.
C15 Pedestrians not allowed
This sign prohibits pedestrians and is placed on roads where pedestrian traffic is dangerous or unsuitable, such as on motorways.
C16 Vehicle width restriction
The sign prohibits traffic with vehicles wider than the specified measurement. The sign is common at narrow passages or roadworks.
C17 Vehicle height restriction
This sign specifies the maximum height for vehicles to pass, like under a bridge. The sign is used where the free height is less than 4.5 meters.
C18 Vehicle length restriction
The sign prohibits traffic with vehicles or vehicle combinations longer than the specified measurement.
C19 Minimum distance
This sign specifies the minimum distance between vehicles, often at bridges or roads with limited load capacity due to, for example, winter road conditions.
C20 Vehicle gross weight restriction
The sign indicates the maximum allowable gross weight for a single vehicle and is often placed on smaller roads, gravel roads, or weaker bridges.
C21 Vehicle and vehicle combination gross weight restriction
This sign indicates the maximum allowable gross weight for a vehicle or vehicle combination.
C22 Weight limit by bearing class
This sign indicates the road’s bearing class, which affects the maximum allowable axle pressure, bogie pressure, and gross weight. BK3 means a maximum axle pressure of 8 tons.
C23 Axle weight restriction
The sign restricts the maximum allowable axle pressure on certain roads or, for example, weaker bridges. The maximum allowable axle pressure is specified on the sign.
C24 Tandem axle weight restriction
This sign restricts the maximum allowable bogie pressure (two axles with less than 2 meters between them). The sign is typically placed on smaller roads or weaker bridges, and the maximum allowable bogie pressure is specified on the sign.
C25 No turning left/right at junction
The sign prohibits turning in a certain direction at the intersection where the sign is placed. If the prohibition applies to multiple intersections, the distance is indicated on an additional panel. The symbol is always adapted to the specific conditions at the location, such as a left or right turn.
C26 No U-turns
This sign prohibits U-turns. The prohibition applies in the intersection or area where the sign is placed. If the prohibition covers multiple intersections, this is indicated with an additional panel.
C27 No overtaking
This sign prohibits overtaking other motorized vehicles except for two-wheeled mopeds and motorcycles without sidecars. The prohibition applies from the sign until a sign indicating "end of overtaking prohibition" (C28) is displayed.
C28 End of overtaking prohibition
This sign indicates that the previous prohibition on overtaking (C27) has now ended.
C29 Prohibition for overtaking with heavy trucks
The sign indicates that heavy trucks with a total weight over 3.5 tons are not allowed to overtake other vehicles, except two-wheeled mopeds or motorcycles without sidecars. The prohibition applies until a sign indicating the "end of overtaking prohibition for heavy trucks" (C30) is displayed.
C30 End of prohibition for overtaking with heavy trucks
This sign indicates that the previous prohibition on overtaking for heavy trucks (C29) has now ended.
C31 Speed limit
The sign indicates the maximum permissible speed in km/h. The limit applies until another sign indicates a different speed or until the sign "End of temporary speed limit" (C32) is posted. However, you should always adjust your speed to road conditions, weather, and traffic. The most common speed limits in Sweden are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 70–100 km/h outside built-up areas, and 110–130 km/h on most motorways.
C32 End of temporary speed limit
The sign informs that a temporary speed limit previously indicated has now ended. The standard speed applies depending on the area.
C33 Stop at customs
The sign means an obligation to stop for customs control. The vehicle must stop at a stop line or, if no such line exists, at the sign.
C34 Stop for specified purpose
The sign indicates an obligation to stop for a specified purpose, in this example at a red light. You must stop at the stop line or, if no such line exists, at the sign.
C35 No parking of vehicles
Parking is prohibited on the side of the road where the sign is placed. The prohibition applies until the next intersection unless another sign indicates that the prohibition still applies after the intersection.
C36 No parking of vehicles on odd-numbered days
The sign indicates that parking is prohibited on the side of the street with odd-numbered house numbers on odd-numbered dates.
C37 No parking of vehicles on even-numbered days
The sign indicates that parking is prohibited on the side of the street with even-numbered house numbers on even-numbered dates.
C38 Alternate date/side parking
The sign indicates that parking is prohibited on even dates on the side with even house numbers and on odd dates on the side with odd house numbers. The sign is often used as an area sign.
C39 No stopping or parking of vehicles
Stopping and parking are both prohibited on the side of the road where the sign is placed. The prohibition applies until the next intersection unless another sign indicates that the prohibition still applies after the intersection.
C40 Location for certain purpose
The sign indicates that stopping and parking are only permitted for a specific purpose, such as loading or unloading. The specific purpose is usually indicated on an additional panel.
C41 End of location with a certain purpose
This sign indicates that the area designated for a specific purpose (as indicated by C40) has ended. The sign may not always be required if it is otherwise clear that the area has ended.
C42 Turning area
This sign indicates an area designated for turning vehicles. Parking is prohibited. If a "no stopping or parking" sign (C39) is included, stopping is also prohibited.
C43 End of turning area
This sign indicates that the designated turning area has ended. The sign may not always be required if it is otherwise clear that the turning area has ended.
C44 No motor vehicles with studded tires except class II mopeds
This sign prohibits motor vehicles with studded tires, except for class II mopeds, from using the road. If the prohibition also applies to class II mopeds, it is indicated on an additional panel.
C45 Special regulations for stopping and parking
The sign indicates special rules for stopping and parking, often by including another traffic sign or supplementary information. These rules may also vary by time and are indicated on an additional panel.
C46 Triple axle weight restriction
This sign indicates the maximum permissible triple axle weight for vehicles on the road or bridge where the sign is displayed.
